SUP FAQ

Questions 1: How do you work on your paddle techniques?

There are a few key elements to work on for your basic paddle techniques.  Each paddler has their own style of paddle techniques. If you are new to the sport, spend 10min of drill to work on your techniques each time you head out.

Here is two of my coach Larry Cain's old video that can help you understand.

Questions 2: How do you find out your best paddle shaft length?

I use QuickBlade and their website will have chart based on their blade type for your weight and height.  But just for the length decisions, look at  the chart preferably using adjustable paddle to find out what is best for you.

Questions 3: How do you know what stroke rate is right for me?

In general if you were able to average a lower stroke rate with much faster speed your expenditure is lot less and you have more power left in your tank at the end of the race or paddle.  I learned this from Jim Terrell when I took his clinic.

I was on my 12’6” Infinity Whiplash and Jim was his 14' Quickblade board.  This video was take in April of 2017.   It is different board sizes but you can see the differences in stroke rate.  There is about 2:1 ratio difference.   Since then my paddle technique has been changed.
